Enabling Challenge-Response Authentication

Challenge-Response Authentication (CHAP) is a method for proving user identity over an insecure medium without giving any information out to eavesdroppers that may enable them to identify themselves as user. When CHAP method is enabled on the node, the node will use CHAP algorithm.

Perform the steps given below to enable Challenge-Response Authentication.

  1. Click Security > Security Settings in the navigation pane.
  2. Select CHAP Settings parameter as 'Enable' from the drop down option (the default value is 'Enable').
  3. Enter the secret in the text box provided against CHAP Secret parameter (the default value is 'testing123').

  4. Click Submit. A success message is displayed. The CHAP is enabled.

Logging In to the Node using CHAP

Perform the steps given below to login to the node using CHAP (Challenge-Response Authentication).

  1. Open a web browser and type the following URL in the address bar: "http://<node IP>:20080" and press Enter where <node IP> is the IP address of the node. The login page is displayed.
  2. Enter the Username and the Password in the respective text box provided. The default password is 'testing123'.
  3. Select the Domain as 'CHALLENGE' from the drop down option.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Enter Response.
  6. Click Submit. The Authentication result is displayed.
