Optical Supervisory Channel Filter (OSCF) adds and drops the supervisory channel wavelength primarily at the terminal, OADM, and intermediate line amplifier (ILA) sites where the OFA are used. OSC carries the management information related to the DWDM channels and enable to detect the fiber cuts and/or transmission degradation in the DWDM trunk.
Typical wavelengths used for supervisory channel are 1490nm and 1510 nm which are well outside the C-band DWDM transmission. A drop filter is required at the input of the DWDM amplifier and a add filter is required at the output of the DWDM amplifier.
This card either contains a single add and drop module (OSCF-S) or dual add and drop modules (OSCF-D), both of which can be used with OFA by plugging it in the card and no separate slot is required.
Front panel
The OSCF module is plugged into the OFA card at the center. OSCF-S and OSCF-D modules are shown in the figures below.
