In a redundant system, in the event of a primary card being jacked out for maintenance or due to failure, the traffic is switched automatically to the secondary card.
A forced switch needs to be applied in case the secondary card needs to take up the primary role, with the primary card still present in the system. A forced sync is preferred before forced switch over so that the secondary card is synchronized to the primary.
The Switch Over and Sync link is not displayed when the Slave Ready for SwitchOver status is 'NO'. In a system, after a redundant card is jacked in, wait for the Operational Status and Equipment to become 'UP' and 'Present' respectively in the Node Inventory preview pane before performing forced switchover.
NOTE 1: Forced switchover from WUI only when the Slave Ready for SwitchOver option is displayed as 'YES' on primary cross-connect card.
NOTE 2: When a secondary cross-connect card is jacked-in, the Equipment status for the card is changed to ‘Present’ and Operational Status to ‘UP’ only after a few minutes. Time is taken for the software in the secondary card to come up.
