Performing Forced Switch Over

In a redundant system, in the event of a primary card being jacked out for maintenance or due to failure, the traffic is switched automatically to the secondary card.

A forced switch needs to be applied in case the secondary card needs to take up the primary role, with the primary card still present in the system. A forced sync is preferred before forced switch over so that the secondary card is synchronized to the primary.

The Switch Over and Sync link is not displayed when the Slave Ready for SwitchOver status is 'NO'. In a system, after a redundant card is jacked in, wait for the Operational Status and Equipment to become 'UP' and 'Present' respectively in the Node Inventory preview pane before performing forced switchover.

NOTE 1: Forced switchover from WUI only when the Slave Ready for SwitchOver option is displayed as 'YES' on primary cross-connect card.

NOTE 2: When a secondary cross-connect card is jacked-in, the Equipment status for the card is changed to ‘Present’ and Operational Status to ‘UP’ only after a few minutes. Time is taken for the software in the secondary card to come up.

Perform the steps given below to apply Forced Switch Over or Forced Sync command.

  1. Click Inventory > Node inventory in the navigation pane. The Node Inventory preview pane is displayed. Click on the Slot 'number' corresponding to the primary redundant HCPXCC04 card.

    OR

Click System > Node slot view in the navigation pane. The Node slot view preview pane is displayed. Click on the primary HCPXCC04 card with Active LED as green.

  2. On STM-64 Crossconnect Card preview pane displayed, click on Switch Over and Sync link. The STM-64 Crossconnect Card - Redundancy operations - Slot <Number> preview pane is displayed.

NOTE: The Switch Over and Sync link is not displayed when the Slave Ready for SwitchOver status is 'NO'.

  3. Click Forced Switch Over. An alert will be displayed prompting you to confirm the operation.

NOTE: Click Forced Sync before performing forced switch over if you want to synchronize the secondary card before it can take the role of a primary.

  4. Click Yes. Forced switch over will be performed.
