Editing CFP Laser Details

Generally, CFP modules are of two types namely DWDM Coherent and Non-Coherent. The DWDM Coherent CFP has following functionalities:

A non-coherent CFP does not have tunability option and is used as a Client CFP. Hence, user cannot edit the laser details of a non-coherent CFP and an error message will get displayed consequently when clicked on Edit link.

Perform the steps given below to edit the laser details of a coherent CFP module. This procedure is explained with HCPSLine22 card as a reference.

  1. Click Inventory > Node inventory in the navigation pane. The Node Inventory preview pane is displayed. Click on the Slot 'number' corresponding to the HCPSLine12 card.

    OR

Click System > Node slot view in the navigation pane. The Node slot view preview pane is displayed. Click on HCPSLine22 card.

  2. On HCPSLine22 aggregate card preview pane, click on Ports link. The Ports on Card Shelf : 1 Slot: <slot number> preview pane is displayed.
  3. Under the Port name field, click on the OTU4 port link. The Provision interface - OTU4-1-<slot number>-1 preview pane is displayed.
  4. Click the link displayed against the MsaCfp parameter. The laser details are displayed.
  5. Click on the Edit link. The Edit MSACFP preview pane is displayed. Note that Edit link is not displayed when CFP is not present on the interface.

  6. Click on Tx Laser Frequency (THz) drop down and select the desired operating frequency from the options displayed. The Tx Laser Wavelength (nm) parameter is automatically set as per operating frequency selected.
  7. Enter power attenuation value in terms of dBm desired in Tx Laser Output Power (dBm) field.
  8. Click on CFP FECType drop down and select the desired FEC to apply.
  9. Click Submit. A confirmation message is displayed.
  10. Click Accept Valid Modifications. A "Successfully Modified" message is displayed under the Warnings field.

A click on Back link will direct you to Edit MSACFP preview pane.

Description

Default Value

Acceptable Values

Tx Laser Status

Displays the status of the laser.

on

--

Laser Frequency (THz)

Allows you to select the operating frequency in terms of THz (terahertz) of the laser in the transceiver.

--

192.00 to 195.95 with 50Ghz spacing

Laser Wavelength (nm)

Displays the laser wavelength as per Laser Frequency value selected. The default value of this parameter is set as per the Laser Frequency set.

--

1561 to 1529nm

Tx Laser Output Power (dBm)

Allows you to enter the power attenuation value to be applied when the signal is transmitted through the CFP module.

0

-15dBm to 5dBm

CFP FECType

Allows you to select the FEC type from the options:

  • HD-FEC: Decoding is based on hard bits (the output is quantized only to two levels) and is called the "HD (Hard-Decision) decoding" where each bit is considered definitely one or zero.
  • SD-FEC: Decoding is based on soft-bits (the output is quantized to more than two levels) and is called the "SD (Soft Decision) decoding" where not only one or zero decision but confidence information for the decision are provided.
  • TRANSPARENT: FEC at CFP module is not applied.

NOTE 1: FEC at interface (FPGA) level is not supported on HCPSLine22 card. To apply FEC through CFP, user must ensure that Forward Error Correction parameter is set as disable at card interface level.

NOTE 2: CFP FecType selection should be the same at near and far end.

ALS Mode

Select the value based on the requirement.

  • Disable: ALS is disabled. LOS will not cause laser shutdown.
  • Automatic: Laser automatically turns on when ALS agent detects an LOS. If LOS still exists at that time, the laser is shut down again. This pattern continues until the LOS is cleared for 100 ms; then, the laser will stay on.
  • Manual: A manual command can be issued that turns on the laser. Laser remains on only if there is no LOS on the transmitter.

NOTE: Editing ALS Mode is not supported in this release and by default will be Disable.
